More about Us

Crafty Fools are Rob Tay and Emma Spreadbury.

Our goal is to have fun and make things, and we mainly do that by creating and touring shows around the country. Our work is family friendly and based around science. Or magic. Rarely at the same time.

We aim to make as much of the show ourselves as possible, from scripts to props to sets to costumes. We also love working with other people both on our shows and theirs.

  • a close up magician who is looking to develop their first stage show
  • a small theatre company trying to tour a technically ambitious show on a budget
  • in need of some cool electronic doodads to flash and go beep during a show
  • looking to put some magical illusion into your production
  • working on something a bit different and are not sure how to achieve it

Rob

Rob Tay is best known as his on-stage alter ego The Magical Mr West, formerly one half of the magical duo Morgan & West. He has been performing all over the UK (and the rest of the world) since 2009 and at this point he probably doesn’t know how to stop.

Rob’s magic consultancy work includes The Child in the Snow (Wilton’s Music Hall), A Christmas Carol (Bristol Old Vic), Tweedy The Clown’s Illusion Confusion, and The Tempest (Stafford Gatehouse)

Rob has more hobbies than he has spare time so if he can draw it, animate it, build it, sew it, throw it, juggle it, solder it, or code it, he’s tinkering with it. You can follow his progress on all of those things below.

Emma

Emma has always wanted to work in theatre production, and after 15 years as a computer science teacher, running departments and dealing with teenagers she now feels perfectly placed to produce shows for a living.

When she’s not updating spreadsheets, Emma enjoys cutting out pictures and sticking them together to make new pictures.
